(San Jose, CA: April 14, 2004) The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County today announced that it has received a donation of $400,000 from Applied Materials to support the creation of affordable housing in Santa Clara County. Applied Materials, Inc. President and Chief executive Officer Mike Splinter made the announcement at the Silicon Valley Manufacturing Group Public Policy Luncheon on Wednesday, April 14, 2004. This donation makes Applied Materials the largest corporate donor to the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County (HTSCC) to date.

Applied Materials’ support of the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County (HTSCC) dates to the formation of the Trust in 2000, when the Santa Clara-based technology firm donated $1 million to kick-start fundraising for the public-private partnership. “Applied Materials’ strong support of our work has helped hundreds of families buy their first homes here, and supported the creation of hundreds of units of affordable rental housing, making it possible for workers to afford to live near their jobs and schools. Applied Materials’ latest donation shows continuing support for affordable housing at a time when it is critically needed in Santa Clara County,” stated HTSCC Executive Director Roccie Hill. To date, Applied Materials and its Foundation have invested a total of $1.4 million in the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County.

The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County, an affordable housing investment trust, offers loans and grants to create affordable housing opportunities. In just over two years, the Trust has helped almost 1,000 families buy their first homes in Santa Clara County; enabled the development of hundreds of units of affordable rental housing, worth over $194 million; and helped create hundreds of units of shelter and special-needs housing in our community, making it possible for over 2,800 people like teachers, police officers, firefighters, nurses and civic employees to live in the communities they serve.
