Housing Trust Announces New County Contribution
(San Jose: November 18, 2003) The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County has received a $500,000 contribution from the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, to provide access to affordable housing for low-income residents of Santa Clara County.
At their Tuesday, November 18 meeting, the County Board of Supervisors voted to give $500,000 to the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County from funds earmarked last year for capital and housing purposes. The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County will use the funds to offer loans to support their First Time Homebuyer Program, which offers loans for closing costs and other assistance to qualified homebuyers. In 1999, the County of Santa Clara was the first entity to offer financial support to the then-new Housing Trust, with a leadership donation of $2
million.
The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County has helped more than 850 families (with an average income of $71,700) buy their first homes in Santa Clara County; enabled the development hundreds of units of
affordable rental housing, worth over $194 million; and helped create hundreds of units of shelter and special-needs housing in our community, making it possible for over 2,700 people like teachers, police officers, firefighters, nurses and civic employees to live in the communities they serve. To date, HTSCC has leveraged the creation of affordable housing worth over $500 million.
The Housing Trust of Santa Clara County is a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) corporation.
